Waterjet cutting on sheet metal with a high-pressure water jet

Waterjet cutting: precision without heat, for any type of material

Waterjet cutting: precision without heat, for any type of material

Waterjet cutting

The waterjet cutting represents one of the most versatile technologies for machining the materials. Thanks to the use of a very high-pressure jet, with the possible addition of abrasive, this technique allows extremely precise cuts without generating any thermal alteration.

This is a 100% cold process: the material does not undergo deformation, burning, or hardening, keeping its properties intact even on thick sections or complex geometries.

For this reason the Waterjet is the ideal choice in cases where tight tolerances and structural integrity are required.

Our production department is equipped to process a wide range of metal materials, from thick structural steels to lightweight aluminum alloys. Thanks to the diversification of our in-house departments and the availability of multiple technologies (fiber laser cutting, waterjet, punching, CNC bending), we can choose the most suitable process for each material, preserving its mechanical properties and ensuring maximum dimensional accuracy.

FLOW MACH 500: advanced technology in waterjet cutting

To ensure consistent, high-level performance, Bernazzoli uses the FLOW MACH 500 system, designed to guarantee precision and operational continuity.

The machine allows you to work with:

  • Up to 150 mm thickness in water-only mode

  • Formats up to 2000 × 4000 mm, suitable for both prototypes and serial production

Edge quality remains uniform and defect-free, ensuring high repeatability even in continuous production.

Dynamic Waterjet XD: angled machining and compensation

The FLOW MACH 500 is equipped with a 5-axis Dynamic Waterjet XD head, which allows machining on complex geometries.

It is possible to perform:

  • Chamfers

  • Angled cuts

The actual applicability of angled machining depends on the part geometry and the position of the operations: in some cases the preparations are completed with subsequent dedicated machining .

An automatic compensation system eliminates the natural taper of the jet, allowing perfectly perpendicular cuts even on thick materials.

Waterjet cutting

A single technology for a wide range of materials

One of the main features of Waterjet is its versatility: the process is not affected by heat and makes it possible to work with very different materials.

Metals
Steel, stainless steel, aluminum (Ergal, Peralluman, Anticorodal), copper, brass, bronze, magnesium.

Composites
Carbon fiber, fiberglass, sandwich panels, Alucore.

Polymers and foamed materials
PVC, nylon, rubber, polyethylene (PE), expanded polyurethane, PET.

The cut remains stable and precise, keeping the material's properties unchanged.

A clean and precise process

The absence of heat results in:

The resulting edge is generally already suitable for subsequent processing.

Integration into the production cycle

Waterjet cutting is integrated into Bernazzoli's production cycle and connects with the departments of:

Depending on the material and geometry, some subsequent operations may require manual intervention or specific processing.

In particular, with some aluminum alloys and bending configurations, deformation can be more complex and is managed with dedicated solutions depending on the part.
